Shachah
Verb
To bow down, worship, prostrate

Definition

Shachah means to bow down, worship, or prostrate oneself. It appears about 170 times. It is the primary Hebrew word for worship, describing the physical act of bowing in homage to God or, wrongly, to idols.

Usage & Theological Significance

Worship (shachah) is the physical embodiment of submission and reverence. 'You shall worship no other god' (Exodus 34:14) makes exclusive worship foundational. Abraham bowed to worship on Mount Moriah. The 24 elders worship before God's throne. True worship is due to God alone.
