H964 · Hebrew · Old Testament
בִּזְיוֹתְיָה
Bizyothyah
Proper Noun
contempts of Yah / in Yahweh's care

Definition

Bizyothyah (H964) is a town in the territory of Judah, listed among the southernmost settlements in Joshua 15:28. The name may mean 'contempts of Yahweh' (a place of judgment) or, by other analysis, 'Yahweh's gift.' It appears only once in Scripture, in the geographical allotment given to the tribe of Judah.

Usage & Theological Significance

The territorial allotments of Joshua remind us that God is sovereign over geography. He determines boundaries (Acts 17:26) and places His people strategically. Even obscure towns in the inheritance lists of Joshua point to God's meticulous care for His people — no corner of the land was forgotten or accidental. Every place has a story in God's redemptive plan.
