I got back last week from a week long trip in beautiful China Lake, California. About 155 miles north east of Los Angeles. It was my first OT&E trip, which stands for Operational Test and Evaluation, and it was a DT Assist, which means the program is still in Developmental Test.
I'll post some pictures, I took (once again with my iPhone – I promise to take a better camera on trips eventually). The highlight other than flying 3 nights and hovering at 600 feet above the ground while a multi million dollar system simulates shooting a missile at you, and the laser turret on the side of the aircraft shoots a laser back at the simulated missile was seeing (8) Top Gun F/A-18's and (4) F-16's on the same flight line as the mighty Battle Phrog! The other huge highlight was spending some time with my Uncle John and nephew Stephen in Burbank.
Enjoy the photos.

This is another piece of gear I tried out: the day HUD (Head's up display)
And here's the picture it gives when you're flying (The symbology was off, so I didn't use it – as you can see, on the deck we're not flying 122 kts- upper right corner)
I only used this little gaget on deck as well although I wore it the whole flight – a moving map display – military grade computer… (I like my iPhone better)

We also ran into John Voight: here's the proof – ok it's bad proof, but that was him!
