Time: Always Enough, or Never Enough?

July 22, 2011 · Men's Ministry

I sent out the following to my 30 Mighty Men a few weeks back: “There's ALWAYS enough time to do the things you BELIEVE you MUST do, but there's NEVER enough time to do those things you THINK you SHOULD do."

You see, to me, it's simply a matter of perspective – and I'll talk about time management tomorrow perhaps (if I find the time to write…). But here's the bottom line question: What are those things you BELIEVE you MUST do? For me, does spending time with my wife and kids fall into that category, or do I think I should do that? How about you? And what about reading the Bible and praying??? I'll bet over 90% of Christians think they should do that, do any really believe they must? To make matters worse, many of these really important things like building relationships by spending quality and quantity time with family and elevating the level of communication doesn't even make the “to-do" list! There's not much of a chance of having enough time for those things then, is there? (See my post script)

Regarding the necessity of hearing from God daily, there was a man I read about that did believe in this. You've probably heard about him, and if you've floated into Biblically illiterate circles you've heard his name mispronounced as that word referring to an occupation… The man is Job, and this is what he said about the Word of God (which we Believers now refer to as the “Holy Bible"): “I have treasured His words more than my necessary food" Job 23:12

There's lots of information out there on using time wisely; I even just found this article which I enjoyed reading and plan on applying many of the 12 steps to adding 12 hours, but my source will always be Scripture. I believe I must make that my source, and I believe I must spend time listening to, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on that Word… Psalm 1 tells me what blessings will result!

So I, like Job, will treasure His word more than my necessary food; you see, I BELIEVE this is a MUST.

Peace,
Adam

PS: Full disclosure: “Q2 time" IS on my daily list on the To-Do iPhone app, but that's just how I'm wired – maybe a little weird, but I believe in being intentional. I wouldn't recommend it, though, because other people in your life might be wired differently and get annoyed at the feeling of being a box to get checked off on a list… As with most things though, once it becomes habit, the need for a list will dissipate…
