Who do you know?

“…that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord…" Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NKJV)

If you know me, you know I like those catch phrases, Marine-isms, and slogans or motto's. The shorter they are the better, and here's another one from the annals of Marine Corps leadership: “What do I know, who needs to know it, and have I told them yet?"

I cannot tell you how many times I heard that as a young Lieutenant, and me, being the cynical belligerent that I was and still am, came up with this: “Who do I know, what do they want to know, and how can I keep it from them!"

It's meant to be funny, but the sad truth is that it's pretty much how most Christians spend their lives. What's worse is that the question: “Who knows me?" which I would consider a more important question to ask, is rarely ever considered with the proper motivations.

I posted a Facebook comment several months ago that read like this: “We spend so much time listening and watching and reading stuff written by people that don't even know us, and yet we spend so little time getting to know the people who do!" I'm just as guilty as the next guy though, listening to the news, watching movies, and reading books written by people I'll probably never meet; but I also do my best take opportunities that I see. Like when I go to church when I'm on a trip or even at home; I go up and introduce myself to the Pastor and let him know I'm thankful for him and praying God's blessings on the church. It's also a principle of the Promise Keepers, and like I've said before, it's all about relationships!

What it all boils down to is the verse I posted at the top though: Knowing God is the goal, and if God lives in us – Christ in you the Hope of Glory – then we can introduce people to Him as they get to know us. The overflow of our relationship with the Father can have profound effect on the other relationships in our lives, but if we aren't spending most of our time with people who simply know who we are, we might just not see what could possibly be.

Keep it elevated!

Peace,
Adam
