Worth the Time?

July 25, 2011 · Spiritual Formation

Full disclosure: when I start these blog posts, sometimes I just have the title in my mind, and then I google it to see what I find… Well, be careful if you do that with this subject… Man! I only got through about 45 seconds of that YouTube video, and there's no way I'm linking it! It was definitely NOT worth the time for me!!!

The reason I bring up this question is that I don't think people usually ask themselves if what they were about to do is worth the time. I'd bet that if they did, they'd probably reconsider everything they did! Especially criminals in light of the time in prison they'd serve if convicted!!!

So I ask myself if this blogging thing is worth the time each time I sit down to do it, and I know that anyone who sees these posts first examines how long it is before they decide that it's worth the time to read… Fortunately I'm sitting in the waiting room at the auto shop, and writing this on my iPad is a better use of my time than staring at ESPN for a couple hours… But wherever you might be while reading this, I hope you feel like reading it was worth your time as well.

Next time you are about to do something that might be a “waste of time" ask yourself if the waste is worth it, because once the time is gone, we usually realize that it was too valuable to waste. And just in case it isn't perfectly clear from all that I write: building meaningful relationships by spending generous quantities of time (in which moments of quality time happens) is NEVER a waste of time!

Peace,

Adam

PS: The Facebook logo shows up when you do an image search for “waste of time." I'm just sayin'… 
