Gender / Biblical Design
Biblical manhood and womanhood by God's design — patriarchal, complementarian, egalitarian, or affirming gender ideology?
RED — Brentwood Baptist Houston has multiple ordained female ministers on pastoral staff: Rev. Mary A. Frazier (Minister of Youth & College since 2006), Rev. Barbara A. Thomas (Children & Events Coordinator, explicitly licensed and ordained). This is a direct BF&M 2000 Article VI nonconformity. Common in some Black SBC-affiliated congregations but technically grounds for SBC Credentials Committee review per the Saddleback / Fern Creek / Saddleback precedent.

Male elders/pastors? Accountability?

Cultural Alignment
DEI/CRT language? Social justice crowding out gospel?
Site copy includes 'Social Justice Advocate' role (Dr. C. Clay Pickens) — verify whether DEI/CRT-adjacent or biblical justice framing.
Caution
Accountability Structure
Denominational home, elder plurality, or external network — is the pastor answerable to anyone?
SBC affiliation legitimate via NAAF and Union Baptist Association, but female ordination practice creates BF&M2000 tension. Yellow rather than red on denominational because the church remains in formal cooperation despite the gender-policy gap.

Assessment
Brentwood Baptist Church Houston, led by Dr. Joe Samuel Ratliff since February 1980, grew from 500 members to 12,000 by 2000 (now ~7,000+ at two services). Dr. Ratliff is the founding president of the National African-American Fellowship of the SBC and was the first African-American to lead the Union Baptist Association (largest urban SBC body, 500+ churches). Theologically conservative on most matters (Christology, Scripture, soteriology) but ordains women to pastoral office (Rev. Mary A. Frazier as Minister of Youth & College; Rev. Barbara A. Thomas licensed and ordained Children & Events Coordinator) — direct BF&M 2000 Article VI violation. RED on gender; YELLOW overall with Credentials Committee referral flag.
