Butter Valley Community Church (formerly Hereford Mennonite Church)

Butter Valley Community Church in Bally, Pennsylvania — formerly known as Hereford Mennonite Church — was the leading congregation that organized the Alliance of Mennonite Evangelical Congregations (AMEC) in 2001-2002 when conservative Anabaptists departed Mennonite Church USA over doctrinal and sexuality concerns. Robert Gerhart, then-pastor, was the primary AMEC organizer. Today Pastor Mark Hager leads with Caleb McCarthy as Associate Pastor. AMEC's two-fold confessional commitment to evangelical orthodoxy and historic biblical Anabaptism gives this congregation rare theological clarity for a Mennonite-rooted body.
