Assessment
Oldest Episcopal church in Kentucky (founded 1796 by Rev. James Moore, first rector and first president of Transylvania University). Present Gothic structure built 1848 by John McMurtry. Henry Clay was a founding pewholder when the parish was organized August 25, 1808; he funded a family pew though he did not formally join until 1847 at age 70 (baptized by Rev. Berkley at Ashland on June 22, 1847 because the church was under construction; confirmed by Bishop Benjamin Bosworth Smith at Transylvania's Morrison Hall on July 18, 1847). Now the cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington under Dean Carol Wade. RED per TEC rubric.
