Assessment
Sparta RPC is a historic Covenanter congregation in Southern Illinois — Sparta has been an RPCNA outpost since the 19th century, when Covenanter Scots-Irish settlers planted churches across the rural Midwest. Holds Westminster Confession with strict confessional subscription, practices exclusive psalmody and a cappella worship (no instruments), maintains twice-Sunday services. Male-only ordination, deeply complementarian, no cultural drift. The exclusive psalmody and a cappella worship will be a major adjustment for those not raised in this tradition, but Sparta represents one of the oldest unbroken confessional Reformed witnesses in the rural Midwest. Illinois has very few RPCNA congregations; Sparta is a meaningful historic anchor.
