Assessment
Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill Jr. (D-MA), Speaker of the U.S. House 1977-1987, was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in his native North Cambridge. O'Neill was baptized here, attended the parish elementary school, graduated from St. John's High School in 1931, was married here, and had his funeral here on January 10, 1994. The parish remains an active Boston Archdiocese congregation serving North Cambridge with multilingual ministry. Catholic parishes are scored Yellow as standing outside the Protestant confessional frame MOOP uses.
