St. John's Church, Lafayette Square (Episcopal)

St. John's Episcopal Church on Lafayette Square at 16th and H Street NW is the historic Greek Revival church (1816, designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe) directly across from the White House. Known as the "Church of the Presidents" — every sitting president since James Madison has attended at least once. Pew 54 is the official President's Pew. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960. Current rector is Rev. Robert W. Fisher. Institutionally part of TEC (Diocese of Washington), which since the 2003 General Convention has departed from biblical authority on sexual ethics and ordains women as bishops since 1989. Per MOOP rubric this is RED at the denominational level; included for situational awareness given its national ceremonial role — presidents from every administration visit, even if rarely as a regular spiritual home.
