Scripture treats the child in the womb as a living person created in the image of God. God declares that He knew and formed the child before birth: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" (Jeremiah 1:5). The unborn are described with the same Greek word (brephos) as born infants. The intentional destruction of the unborn is therefore the shedding of innocent blood, which God declares He hates (Proverbs 6:16-17). The Mosaic law assigned penalty for harm done to an unborn child (Exodus 21:22-25), affirming the personhood of the child in the womb. Abortion is an offense against the Creator who alone has authority over life and death.
The act of miscarrying, or producing young before the natural time, or before the fetus is perfectly formed.
ABOR'TION, n. [L. abortio, a miscarriage.] 1. The act of miscarrying, or producing young before the natural time, or before the fetus is perfectly formed. 2. The fetus brought forth before it is perfectly formed. 3. Any fruit or produce that does not come to maturity. 4. Failure of a plan or project. Note: Webster's definition treats abortion as the premature termination of life. There is no pretense that the unborn child is mere tissue or a "clump of cells."
• Psalm 139:13-16 — "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb."
• Jeremiah 1:5 — "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you."
• Exodus 21:22-25 — "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her... life for life."
• Proverbs 6:16-17 — "There are six things the LORD hates... hands that shed innocent blood."
• Luke 1:41-44 — "The baby leaped in her womb... the babe leaped in my womb for joy."
Abortion has been reframed from the destruction of a human life to a "healthcare right."
The modern corruption of language around abortion is among the most deliberate in history. The child is called a "fetus," a "clump of cells," or a "product of conception" to strip away personhood. The act of killing is called "reproductive healthcare," "choice," or "termination of pregnancy." The woman is told she has "bodily autonomy" as though the child's body is her own. Scripture recognizes no such right. God alone is the author of life. The euphemisms exist to anesthetize the conscience and suppress the truth that every human being bears the image of God from conception. The church that refuses to call abortion what it is — the shedding of innocent blood — has already compromised with the spirit of the age.
• "Scripture calls the unborn child a person known by God before birth — abortion is therefore not a medical procedure but the destruction of an image-bearer."
• "The euphemism 'reproductive healthcare' exists to disguise what abortion actually is: the shedding of innocent blood, which God declares He hates."
