The Ancient of Days is the title Daniel gives to God enthroned in cosmic judgment (Daniel 7:9-14, 22): white-haired in eternal majesty, robed in white as snow, His throne flaming fire, ten thousand times ten thousand standing before Him. The books are opened, the beasts are judged, and dominion is given to One like a Son of Man who comes on the clouds. This is the courtroom scene that frames all of Daniel and echoes through Revelation 1, where the risen Christ bears the same description — proving that the Son of Man is the Ancient of Days. Eternal Father and incarnate Son share the throne; the gavel is His.
Webster 1828: the eternal God enthroned as Judge of all the earth.
The vision portrays God in the dignity of unending years, robed in white, surrounded by fire, opening books of judgment. He is older than time and judges time.
Daniel 7:9 — "I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow."
Daniel 7:13 — "One like the Son of man came...and came to the Ancient of days."
Daniel 7:22 — "Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints."
Psalm 90:2 — "From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God."
Modern faith wants a young, relevant God; Daniel saw the Ancient of Days.
The church chasing relevance has forgotten the gravity of an eternal Judge. We market a God who is hip rather than confess a God who is everlasting.
The Ancient of Days does not need our updates. He sat before the worlds were and will sit when they are folded.
