Ascension of Christ
uh-SEN-shuhn of KRYST
noun phrase
From Latin ascendere "to climb up."

📖 Biblical Definition

The Ascension of Christ is the bodily ascension of the risen Jesus from the Mount of Olives forty days after the resurrection (Acts 1:9-11; Luke 24:50-53), where He was taken up into the cloud of divine glory and seated at the right hand of the Father. The Ascension is not a disappearance but an enthronement: "set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion" (Ephesians 1:20-22). From that throne He reigns, He intercedes (Hebrews 7:25), and He has poured out the Spirit (Acts 2:33). The Ascension is therefore the present coronation of King Jesus, and the assurance that He will return the same way.

The bodily ascension of the risen Christ from the Mount of Olives forty days after the resurrection, witnessed by the apostles, to His present session at the right hand of the Father in heaven, where He reigns over all and intercedes for His people.

📖 Key Scripture

Acts 1:9"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight."

Ephesians 1:20-22"He raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places... and hath put all things under his feet."

Hebrews 4:14"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Treated as Easter's footnote rather than the climactic enthronement of the Mediator King.

Resurrection without ascension leaves Christ wandering the earth; ascension is His enthronement. He sits at the right hand because the work is done. Acts 1, Ephesians 1, Hebrews 1 all proclaim the same coronation. Recover the Ascension.
