Discipleship (Intentional)
/dɪˈsaɪ.pəl.ʃɪp/
noun
From Greek mathetes (μαθητής) — "learner, student, follower." Discipleship is the ongoing, intentional process of being formed into the image of Jesus Christ through teaching, accountability, practice, and imitation. It is the normal Christian life — not an advanced option for the super-spiritual.

📖 Biblical Definition

Intentional discipleship is the deliberate process of forming a Christian into Christ-likeness. It is neither automatic (you do not become mature simply by attending church) nor mystical (there is no magic formula that produces maturity). It is the slow, patient work of teaching, correcting, practicing, and imitating under the guidance of more mature believers. Jesus commanded it: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20). Notice: the commission is not to make converts but disciples. Paul modeled it: "The things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2). That is four generations in one verse: Paul → Timothy → faithful men → others. Discipleship requires: (1) Relationship — you cannot disciple a stranger; (2) Content — Scripture must be taught and obeyed; (3) Practice — character is formed by habits, not just head-knowledge; (4) Accountability — blind spots are exposed by people who love you enough to tell the truth. The crisis of the modern church is not a lack of information but a lack of disciple-making. There are millions of Christians who have attended thousands of sermons and never been discipled. The answer is older men taking younger men seriously and doing the work.
