Biblical family values are not a political platform but the moral order God established in creation and codified in His law. God created the family as the foundational institution of human society -- one man and one woman joined in covenant marriage, bearing and raising children in the fear of the Lord. "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD" (Proverbs 18:22). Children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). Fathers are commanded to lead, mothers to nurture, and children to honor their parents (Ephesians 5:22-6:4). These are not conservative preferences -- they are divine commands woven into the fabric of creation.
Family: the collective body of persons who live in one house and under one head or manager.
FAM'ILY, n. [L. familia.] 1. The collective body of persons who live in one house and under one head or manager; a household, including parents, children, and servants. VALUE, n. Worth; that property of a thing which renders it useful. Note: Webster understood the family as a governed household under headship -- not a fluid arrangement of autonomous individuals.
• Genesis 2:24 — "A man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."
• Psalm 127:3 — "Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward."
• Ephesians 6:1-4 — "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right."
• Proverbs 22:6 — "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Family values has been co-opted politically and redefined to include what God forbids.
The phrase "family values" has been corrupted from two directions. Politically, it became a slogan used by politicians who invoked Christian language while living in contradiction to it. Culturally, the progressive movement has redefined "family" to include every conceivable arrangement -- same-sex couples, polyamorous households, single parenthood by choice -- and insists that anyone who upholds the biblical definition is a bigot. The result is that "family values" now means whatever the speaker wants it to mean. Biblical family values are not flexible. They are rooted in creation order, governed by divine law, and centered on covenant marriage between a man and a woman for the purpose of reflecting Christ and His church.
• "Biblical family values are not a conservative political position -- they are the moral architecture God embedded in creation itself."
• "When the culture redefines family, it does not expand freedom -- it dismantles the very institution God designed to protect children and transmit faith."
