The Feast of Trumpets (Hebrew Yom Teruah, "day of the blast") is the Old Testament autumn convocation on the first day of the seventh month (Tishri), inaugurated by the blowing of trumpets (shofars): "In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation" (Leviticus 23:23-25; Numbers 29:1-6). It was a Sabbath rest, a holy assembly, and the gateway to the autumn cluster of feasts — Day of Atonement (10th of Tishri) and Tabernacles (15th-21st of Tishri). In modern Judaism it became Rosh Hashanah ("head of the year"), the civil new year. Christ’s return is heralded by trumpet (1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16).
TRUM'PETS, FEAST OF
A sacred Hebrew festival, observed on the first day of the seventh month, inaugurated by the blowing of trumpets, and serving as the gateway to the autumn cluster of feasts.
Leviticus 23:24 — "In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation."
Numbers 29:1 — "It is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you."
Psalm 81:3 — "Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day."
1 Corinthians 15:52 — "In a moment... at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible."
The Feast of Trumpets points to the last trump; modern Christianity rarely connects the dots.
The Feast of Trumpets stands at the gateway of the autumn feasts. The shofar sounded; Israel gathered; ten days later came the Day of Atonement; five days after that came Tabernacles. The trumpet was both call to assembly and warning to the unprepared. Joel 2 picks up the same instrument: blow ye the trumpet in Zion... for the day of the Lord cometh.
The trumpet motif runs straight into the New Testament. The last trumpet of 1 Corinthians 15 raises the dead. The seven trumpets of Revelation 8-11 announce judgments on a world that did not heed the warning. Christ Himself returns with the trump of God (1 Thess 4:16). The Feast of Trumpets in Tishri prefigures the Day when the last trumpet will sound and there will be no more delay. Listen now; the rehearsal is in the calendar.

"The Feast of Trumpets prefigures the Day when the last trumpet will sound and delay ends."
"Joel says blow ye the trumpet in Zion; the warning is older and louder than the modern church admits."
"Listen now; the rehearsal is already in the calendar."
