Healing of the Blind
HEEL-ing of the BLYND
miracle
Greek typhlos (G5185), blind. Multiple healings of the blind in the Gospels: Bartimaeus (Mark 10), the blind man at Bethsaida (Mark 8), the man born blind (John 9), and others. Sight is one of the dominant signs of Christ's Messianic mission (Isa 35:5).

📖 Biblical Definition

Christ's healing of the blind is one of the most frequent miracle types in the Gospels. Notable cases include Bartimaeus near Jericho (Mark 10:46-52), the blind man at Bethsaida who saw “men as trees, walking” before a second touch (Mark 8:22-26), and the man born blind in John 9, healed by mud and the pool of Siloam, who is then progressively converted theologically as he debates the Pharisees. Isaiah 35:5 prophesied: then the eyes of the blind shall be opened.

📖 Key Scripture

Isaiah 35:5"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped."

Mark 10:51"What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Modern Christianity often skips the spiritual application; physical sight in Scripture is a parable for spiritual sight.

The dominant Old Testament prophecy of the Messiah's ministry, quoted by Christ in Luke 4:18 from Isaiah 61, includes recovering of sight to the blind. The phrase covers both literal sight (which Christ restored frequently) and spiritual sight (which the gospel restores universally to the saved). 2 Corinthians 4:4 says the god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers; salvation is opening the eyes.

Modern Christianity often focuses on physical healing or spiritual blindness in isolation. The Gospels hold them together. The man born blind in John 9 received both: physical sight by Christ's mud, and spiritual sight progressively as he confessed Christ as prophet, as a man from God, and finally as Lord whom he worshipped. Pray for both kinds of sight; ask Christ for the second touch when the first one leaves you seeing men as trees.
