Grateful Heart
GRAYT-ful hart
Heart Condition
From Greek eucharistos (well-graced, thankful) — the heart that names grace and answers it.

📖 Biblical Definition

The ruled heart, governed by the peace of Christ and overflowing in thanksgiving. Colossians 3:15-17 places gratitude at the center of the disciplined Christian life: And let the peace of God rule in your hearts... and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly... singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Ephesians 5:20 commands the practice: Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:18: In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Gratitude is not sentiment but discipline — the practiced posture of recognizing every good gift as from above (James 1:17). The ungrateful heart is the heart of Romans 1: those who knew God but glorified him not as God, neither were thankful (Rom 1:21) became darkened in their understanding. Gratitude is the gateway-virtue that opens the soul to all the others.

📜 Webster 1828 Definition

The age teaches us to demand and call it justice. Every gift is treated as a wage, every kindness as overdue.

Gratitude reverses the current. The grateful heart names every breath grace and so finds peace already at home.
