The three principal modern corruptions of husbandly headship are: (1) egalitarian abolition (the husband as merely an equal partner with no directive authority), which contradicts the explicit Pauline pattern; (2) soft-complementarian dissolution (the name retained, the substance evaporated into mutual consultation and tie-breaking by consensus), which renders the doctrine vacuous; and (3) chauvinist caricature (headship as license for selfish authority, contempt for the wife, refusal of sacrificial love), which Paul absolutely rules out at Ephesians 5:25-30.
