The "I AM" statements are seven distinctive declarations Jesus made in John's Gospel. Each one begins with the Greek ego eimi ("I am") and completes itself with a metaphor that reveals something essential about His identity and mission: (1) "I am the bread of life" (John 6:35) — He satisfies the deepest spiritual hunger; (2) "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12) — He illuminates the darkness of sin and ignorance; (3) "I am the door of the sheep" (John 10:7, 9) — He is the only way into the fold of God's people; (4) "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11, 14) — He lays down His life for His sheep; (5) "I am the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25) — He raises the dead and grants eternal life; (6) "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6) — He is the only path to the Father; (7) "I am the true vine" (John 15:1, 5) — He is the source of all spiritual life for His branches. Beyond the seven metaphorical statements, Jesus also made absolute "I AM" statements that claimed the divine name directly. "Before Abraham was, I AM" (John 8:58) — the Jews immediately picked up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, because they understood exactly what He was claiming. "If you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins" (John 8:24). At His arrest, when He said "I AM," the soldiers "drew back and fell to the ground" (John 18:5-6). The "I AM" statements are not merely poetic metaphors. They are the claims of the God of Exodus speaking through a Galilean carpenter to the world He made.

John 14:6 — "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
John 8:58 — "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."
Exodus 3:14 — "And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM.""
