Palm
PAHM
noun
Latin palma. Hebrew tamar (H8558); Greek phoinix (G5404). The desert tree of Elim and Jericho; carved on the temple walls; waved at the Triumphal Entry; held by the great multitude before the throne in Revelation 7.

📖 Biblical Definition

The palm (specifically the date palm, Phoenix dactylifera) is the tall, single-trunked tree that flourishes in the oases and valleys of Israel — and in Scripture it carries four loaded images. First, the emblem of the righteous: "The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree" (Psalm 92:12). Second, the carved ornament of Solomon’s temple, on doors, walls, and pillars (1 Kings 6:29, 32, 35). Third, the branch waved before Christ at the Triumphal Entry: "Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him" (John 12:13) — fulfilling the prophesied Hosanna of Psalm 118:25-26. Fourth, the symbol of victory held by the great multitude of the redeemed: "clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands" (Revelation 7:9). Palm marks every coronation of the King.

📖 Key Scripture

Psalm 92:12"The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree."

John 12:13"Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna."

1 Kings 6:29"He carved all the walls of the house... with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers."

Revelation 7:9"A great multitude... clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Today's palm-waving crowd will tomorrow shout crucify — ask Jerusalem.

The same crowd that waved palms before Christ on Sunday cried for His blood by Friday. Palm Sunday is a warning: emotional crowds are not the church. The wave of the moment is not the worship of a lifetime. Many a movement, ministry, and convert is palm-deep and crucifixion-shallow.

Yet Revelation 7 redeems the palm. The great multitude that no man can number stand before the throne, white-robed, with palms in hand — a victory-day that will never reverse into a Friday. The palm of Sunday is fickle; the palm of glory is permanent. Aim for the second.
