Provision in Scripture is God’s active supply of His people’s needs — not abstract sustaining but specific daily care. Christ teaches it directly: "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11); "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat... your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things" (6:25-32). Scripture is dense with examples: the manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16), the ravens feeding Elijah by the brook Cherith (1 Kings 17), the widow’s endless oil and meal (1 Kings 17:14-16), the multiplied loaves and fishes (Matthew 14, 15). The Hebrew Yahweh-Jireh ("the LORD will provide", Genesis 22:14) names the doctrine. Trust the Father’s open hand.
God's active supply of His people's needs; the daily care that creation continues.
Christ's sermon on the mount addresses provision-anxiety directly (Mt 6:25-34): the heavenly Father feeds the birds, clothes the lilies, knows our needs.
Genesis 22:14 — "Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."
Matthew 6:33 — "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Philippians 4:19 — "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Modern affluent Christianity often forgets dependency; provision-language sharpens with awareness that nothing is owed and everything is given.
Matthew 6 is meant to lift the saint's anxiety. The Father knows; the birds eat; the lilies clothe; the kingdom-priorities, kept first, anchor the rest. Provision is His business; obedience is ours.
Hebrew yireh (will see / provide).
Hebrew yireh — will see, will provide; in Yahweh-yireh.
"Provision is His business; obedience is ours."
"The Father knows; the birds eat; the lilies clothe."
"Yahweh-yireh: the LORD will see and supply."
