SHOUL'DER, n. [Sax. sculdor.] The joint which connects the arm to the body. In Scripture, the shoulder is the seat of borne responsibility: the high priest carried the twelve tribes on his shoulders via the ephod's stones; the shepherd carries the lost sheep on his shoulders; the government shall be upon the Messiah's shoulder. What rests on the shoulder, the bearer is responsible for.

📖 Key Scripture

Isaiah 9:6"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Exodus 28:12"And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD on his two shoulders for remembrance."

Deuteronomy 33:12"Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety. The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders.""

⚠️ Modern Corruption

The government shall be upon His shoulder. The Messiah carries the world; you do not have to.

A heavy burden every Christian carries unnecessarily is the weight of ultimate responsibility. Isaiah 9:6 locates it elsewhere: "the government shall be upon his shoulder." The Messiah carries what you cannot. Your shoulders are made for specific burdens — your family, your ministry, your neighbor — not for the government of the cosmos. Shrug that off; He has it. Bear what He has given; trust Him with everything else.
