The mercy seat of God now reframed for the new covenant — where believers approach boldly through Christ to receive mercy and grace in time of need (Heb 4:16).
God's seat of mercy approached through Christ.
The throne of God considered as the seat of grace and mercy for those who come through Jesus the great High Priest; replaces the inaccessible mercy seat of the old covenant.
Hebrews 4:16 — "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."
Hebrews 10:19 — "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus."
Romans 8:34 — "Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."
Approached casually, as if the boldness erased the holiness rather than rested on the blood.
"Come boldly to the throne of grace" gets either casualized into flippancy (we walk in like buddies) or weighted back into fearful approach (still need a mediator, still tentative). The corruption is at either extreme; the boldness is real because the blood is sufficient — neither flippant nor timid.
Greek thronos charitos — throne of grace.
['Greek', 'G2362', 'thronos', 'throne']
['Greek', 'G5485', 'charis', 'grace, favor']
"Come boldly to the throne of grace."
"The mercy seat is now open through Christ."
