"Titus 2 women" refers to Paul’s commissioning of older women in Titus 2:3-5 to teach the younger women how to be wives, mothers, and homemakers. Their commission is explicit: "that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Notice the commission runs woman-to-woman, not from the pulpit, and it is unapologetically domestic, marital, and obedience-shaped. This is the patriarchal alternative to feminist discipleship: older Christian wives, theologically literate and seasoned, training the next generation in the high vocation of biblical womanhood under the headship of their husbands.
Older women mentoring younger women per Titus 2.
Paul's commissioning in Titus 2:3-5 of older women to be teachers of good things — instructing younger women in marriage, motherhood, household management, character, and reverent life; a specifically feminine line of discipleship paralleling the Paul-Timothy line.
Titus 2:3-5 — "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands."
1 Timothy 5:9-10 — "Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old... well reported of for good works."
Proverbs 31:26 — "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."
Sidelined as outdated gender roles; Paul commands it as essential to healthy churches.
Titus 2 women are a structural necessity. Without older women teaching younger women, the church loses a whole line of formation. The pattern requires older women whose lives qualify them to teach. Pray for Titus 2 women in your congregation.
