About this confession

The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith was the work of English Reformed Baptist pastors who met privately during the years of state persecution and published it openly in 1689 once the Toleration Act made it legal. The confession affirms the same Reformed soteriology as the Westminster Confession, but parts company on the doctrines of the church, baptism, and the role of the civil magistrate in matters of religion.

Each chapter on this site links Scripture proof-texts directly into the MOOP Bible Translation Engine, and links theological terms to corresponding entries in the MOOP Dictionary — so reading the confession becomes a study, not just a recitation.

Phase 1 status: 12 chapters drafted (1–5, 7–13). The remaining 20 are scaffolded with chapter titles + 1-line summaries; more drafts landing as the project continues.
