G1360 · Greek · New Testament
διότι
Dioti
Conjunction
Because / For / Therefore

Definition

The Greek conjunction dioti (G1360) means 'because,' 'for the reason that,' or 'therefore.' It introduces a causal explanation, grounding an imperative in a theological truth or linking a conclusion to its reason.

Usage & Theological Significance

Dioti is the grammar of gospel reasoning. Paul uses it repeatedly to anchor ethical commands in theological reality: we are to do X because God has done Y. This pattern — indicative grounding imperative, gospel enabling command — is the structure of New Testament ethics. The causal conjunction is not merely a literary device but a theological statement: in Scripture, everything has a reason, and all reasons ultimately trace back to God's character.
