ἕτοιμος
hetoimos
Adjective
ready, prepared

Definition

Ready, prepared, at hand. Describes a state of complete preparedness — everything needful has been done, and the moment of action has arrived. Used for wedding feasts prepared, harvests ready, and believers who must be spiritually ready for Christ's return.

Usage & Theological Significance

Hetoimos carries the urgency of eschatological readiness. Jesus repeatedly warns: 'Be ready' (Matthew 24:44). The parable of the ten virgins turns on readiness — five were hetoimos, five were not. In God's economy, the feast is always prepared (Matthew 22:4); the question is whether we are. This readiness isn't anxious vigilance but confident preparation rooted in relationship with Christ.
