Blessed, praised, worthy of blessing — used exclusively of God in the New Testament. This is the word reserved for divine blessing: when Scripture says 'Blessed be God,' it uses eulogetos. It differs from makarios (blessed/happy, used for people) — eulogetos belongs to God alone.
Eulogetos is the church's word of doxology — pure worship directed upward to God. Paul erupts into eulogetos at the start of Ephesians: 'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!' (1:3). It appears in moments of overwhelming gratitude when the only fitting response is worship. The word reminds us that while God blesses us (eulogeo), we bless Him back with praise (eulogetos).
