Μεσος
Mesos
Adjective
Middle / In the Midst

Definition

An adjective meaning middle, in the midst of, among. Used both spatially and figuratively. Jesus stood 'in the midst' of His disciples after the resurrection, and He promises to be 'in the midst' wherever two or three gather in His name.

Usage & Theological Significance

Christ's presence 'in the midst' is one of the most comforting promises in Scripture. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus declares, 'Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.' After the resurrection, Jesus stood 'in their midst' and said 'Peace be with you' (John 20:19). In Revelation, Christ walks 'in the midst' of the lampstands (the churches). This word assures believers that Christ is not distant — He is present among His people.
