Μεθοδεια
Methodeia
Noun, Feminine
Scheme / Craftiness / Wile

Definition

From meta (after) and hodos (way). Literally 'a following after' — hence a method, scheme, or crafty strategy. Used exclusively of Satan's deceptive tactics in Ephesians.

Usage & Theological Significance

Paul warns believers to put on the full armor of God so they can stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). He also warns against being carried about by every wind of doctrine through the craftiness of men (Ephesians 4:14). The word reveals that Satan does not operate randomly — he employs strategic, calculated deception. This is why believers need not just moral strength but spiritual armor and discernment.
