From megas (great) and prepō (to be fitting). Befitting greatness, magnificent, majestic. Used only in 2 Peter 1:17 to describe the voice that spoke from the 'majestic glory' at Christ's transfiguration.
Peter testifies that the voice came from the 'Majestic Glory' saying, 'This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased' (2 Peter 1:17). The word was chosen carefully — God's glory is not just great, it is fittingly great, appropriate to His nature. There is a propriety and dignity to divine glory that transcends mere power. God's majesty is both overwhelming and perfectly ordered.
