Μεταξυς
Metaxus
Adjective
Intermediate / Middle

Definition

Related to metaxu (between). An adjective describing that which is in between or intermediate. Used in contexts of temporal and spatial midpoints.

Usage & Theological Significance

The concept of the intermediate state — what happens between death and resurrection — is one of theology's most discussed questions. Paul desired to depart and be 'with Christ, which is better by far' (Philippians 1:23), suggesting conscious fellowship with Christ immediately after death. Yet the full resurrection of the body awaits Christ's return. Believers live between the already and the not yet.

Key Bible Verses

Luke 23:43 Jesus answered Him, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.'
1 Thessalonians 4:14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
Revelation 14:13 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.
