Μετρεω
Metreō
Verb
To Measure / To Apportion

Definition

From metron (a measure). To measure, to take the dimensions of, to apportion. Jesus uses this word in His teaching about judgment: 'With the measure you use, it will be measured to you.'

Usage & Theological Significance

Jesus' principle of reciprocal measurement is one of His most practical teachings: 'With the measure you use, it will be measured to you' (Matthew 7:2). How we judge others determines how we are judged. How generously we give determines how generously we receive (Luke 6:38). In Revelation, the angel measures the new Jerusalem (Revelation 21:17), suggesting that even the eternal city has defined dimensions and perfect order.
