Μελιτινος
Melitinos
Adjective
Of Honey / Honey-Like

Definition

From meli (honey). Made of or relating to honey. Used in descriptions of sweetness, particularly the sweetness of God's word.

Usage & Theological Significance

The honey-like quality of God's word is a consistent biblical theme. When Ezekiel ate the scroll God gave him, it was 'as sweet as honey' in his mouth (Ezekiel 3:3). The Psalmist declares God's words are sweeter than honey (Psalm 119:103). Yet the sweetness of receiving God's word can be followed by the bitterness of proclaiming hard truths. God's word is always sweet to the faithful heart, even when its message is difficult.
