Μετρον
Metron
Noun, Neuter
Measure / Standard / Portion

Definition

A measure, whether of capacity, length, or degree. Used metaphorically of the measure of faith, the measure of the gift of Christ, and the standard by which we judge others.

Usage & Theological Significance

Paul says God has given each believer 'a measure of faith' (Romans 12:3) and grace 'according to the measure of Christ's gift' (Ephesians 4:7). Jesus warns that with the measure we use to judge, we will be judged (Matthew 7:2). The concept of measure teaches that (1) God distributes gifts sovereignly, (2) believers should operate within their assigned sphere, and (3) how we treat others determines how God treats us.
