Περιποιησις
Peripoiēsis
Noun, Feminine
Preservation / Obtaining / Possession

Definition

From peripoieō (to acquire, to preserve). The act of obtaining, preserving, or gaining possession. Used of God's own possession — His chosen people — and of obtaining salvation.

Usage & Theological Significance

Believers are God's own possession (1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 1:14). This word carries stunning implications: the God of the universe has acquired a people for Himself at infinite cost — the blood of His Son. Salvation is also described as the 'obtaining' of glory (2 Thessalonians 2:14). We belong to God because He purchased us.
