Περισσευμα
Perisseuma
Noun, Neuter
Abundance / What Remains / Surplus

Definition

From perisseuō (to abound). That which is left over, the surplus, the abundance. Used of the twelve baskets of leftovers after feeding the five thousand.

Usage & Theological Significance

After feeding five thousand, the disciples collected twelve baskets of leftovers (Mark 8:8). God's provision always exceeds the need. The surplus is not waste — it demonstrates that God gives more than enough. Jesus also taught that what comes out of the mouth flows from the overflow of the heart (Matthew 12:34).
