דַּגָּה
daggah
Noun, feminine
fish (collective)

Definition

Fish, used collectively for fish as a group. Related to dag (H1709, fish). Fish appear in creation, provision, judgment, and prophetic symbolism throughout Scripture.

Usage & Theological Significance

Fish are woven through the biblical narrative as symbols of God's sovereignty over creation. God created sea creatures on Day 5 (Gen 1:21). The great fish swallowed Jonah as an instrument of divine discipline and rescue (Jon 1:17). Jesus multiplied fish to feed thousands, called fishermen as apostles, and after the resurrection cooked fish on the shore (John 21:9) — restoring Peter at the same medium where He first called him.
