אוֹדוֹת
Odoth
Preposition
because of, on account of, concerning

Definition

The word odoth (also al-odoth) is a prepositional phrase meaning "because of," "on account of," or "concerning." It appears in several Old Testament passages to express reason or cause, and is especially common in the phrase "because of this" (al-odoth zeh).

Usage & Theological Significance

This preposition carries theological weight when it frames God's actions — all that He does is purposeful and motivated by covenant love, justice, and faithfulness. When Scripture says God acted "because of" Israel's sin (Numbers 12:1) or "concerning" His promises, it invites readers to trace the logic of divine action: nothing God does is arbitrary. Every judgment and every mercy has a reason rooted in His character.
