Usage & Theological Significance

Micah 5:2: 'But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah... out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins (môtsā'ōth) are from of old, from ancient times.' This is one of the great Messianic prophecies — Christ's 'goings forth' are from eternity, predating His Bethlehem birth. Psalm 65:8: 'where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy' — the môtsā' of morning. Proverbs 4:23: 'Guard your heart, for everything you do flows (môtsā') from it.'
