moshab
Noun, Masculine
Dwelling, seat, assembly, habitation, session

Definition

From H3427 (yashab, 'to sit/dwell'). Moshab refers to a place of sitting or dwelling β€” a habitation, a settled community, or the act of dwelling. It describes both human settlements and divine dwelling.

Usage & Theological Significance

Moshab appears in the climactic statement of Psalm 1: 'Blessed is the man who does not sit in the moshab of scoffers.' This negative counsel defines wisdom as the refusal to permanently settle into a community of cynicism and rebellion. More broadly, the concept of moshab β€” where one dwells and with whom β€” defines character. God's dwelling place (Psalm 107:4,7) is what humanity ultimately seeks. The entire narrative of Scripture moves from Eden (paradise dwelling) through exile (broken dwelling) to Revelation 21 (eternal co-dwelling with God).
