אֱלִיָּה
Eliyyah
Proper Name, masculine
My God is Yahweh

Definition

The name Eliyyah combines eli (my God) and Yah (Yahweh), meaning "My God is Yahweh." It appears as an alternate or abbreviated form of the name Elijah, borne by a minor Levite in Ezra 10:26. The name itself is a bold theological confession.

Usage & Theological Significance

In the Old Testament world where gods were many and loyalties were tested, the name Eliyyah was a statement of allegiance: my God — not Baal, not Asherah — is Yahweh. This is also the name of the great prophet Elijah (spelled Eliyahu, H452), whose ministry confronted idolatry and called Israel back to covenant faithfulness. Every bearer of this name was a living testimony to monotheistic faith.
