Definition

A primitive root meaning to cover over, hedge about, screen or protect. Used of God covering the mercy seat, shielding His people, and the cherubim covering the ark.

Usage & Theological Significance

Sakak is the verb of divine protection. The cherubim 'covered' the mercy seat (Exodus 25:20). Psalm 91:4: God 'shall cover thee with his feathers.' Exodus 33:22: God covers Moses with His hand. God screens His people from destruction and covers their sin with mercy.
