Definition

A primitive root meaning to lift up or heap up. Particularly used for building a road β€” clearing and raising a path through difficult terrain.

Usage & Theological Significance

Salal is behind one of the prophets' most stirring images: the highway of God. Isaiah 57:14: 'Cast ye up, prepare the way.' Isaiah 62:10 repeats. God is the ultimate road-builder. John the Baptist's ministry is previewed: 'Prepare ye the way of the LORD.' Every act of divine preparation is an act of salal.
