The foot is the body part Scripture associates with the lowliest service (the washing of feet — John 13), the beauty of the gospel-messenger ("How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings", Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15), the pilgrim’s sojourning ("By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went", Hebrews 11:8), and the King’s final triumph ("For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet", 1 Corinthians 15:25; Psalm 110:1). The dust on the feet of the apostles was the witness against rejecting cities (Matthew 10:14). Feet matter in Scripture.

Modern leadership stands at the head of the table; Christ knelt at the feet of His.
John 13 is one of the most subversive passages in the New Testament. The Lord of the universe took a towel, basin, and water and washed twelve sets of dirty fishermen's feet — including the feet of the man who would betray Him before sunrise. He then said: I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
Modern leadership culture, in church and out, often inverts this. The leader stands at the head, gets the title, takes the platform, expects the deference. Christ's pattern is opposite: leadership defined by which feet you wash, not which throne you take. The cure for ambition is the basin. Take it down off the wall and use it. The Lord set the precedent; the Spirit empowers the imitation.
