The third I-am saying in John 10: I am the door of the sheep... by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The metaphor combines exclusivity (one door) with welcome (any man may enter) and provision (in and out, finding pasture). The thieves and robbers who climb up some other way are condemned; the door is the only legitimate way into the fold.
I AM THE DOO, n.
A scriptural Christ-title; in John 10, Christ as the exclusive door into the fold of God.
John 10:7 — "Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep."
John 10:9 — "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."
John 14:6 — "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Acts 4:12 — "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Modern pluralism climbs up some other way; Christ said the door is one and named.
John 10:9 is one of the cleanest exclusivity-statements of the gospel. Christ does not say I am a door; He says I am the door. Acts 4:12 confirms: there is none other name. Modern pluralism finds this offensive; Christ Himself was the One who said it. The exclusivity is His own.
The same verse contains the welcome that pluralists miss: any man. The door is one, but the door is open to any man who enters by it. There is no ethnic, class, intellectual, or moral filter at the door other than the door itself. Come to Christ. He saves any man who enters by Him; He saves no man who climbs up some other way.
