Raising of Jairus's Daughter
JY-rus
miracle
Greek miracle (Mark 5:21-43; Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56). Christ raised the twelve-year-old daughter of Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, after she had died. Christ said she only slept; she arose at His word.

📖 Biblical Definition

Mark 5 records the longer of two intertwined miracles. Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, fell at Christ's feet asking healing for his dying daughter. On the way, the woman with the issue of blood touched Christ's garment and was healed. Word came that the girl had died. Christ said: be not afraid, only believe. At the house, He took Peter, James, and John, took the girl by the hand, and said Talitha cumi (damsel, arise). She arose; she walked; He commanded that she be given something to eat. He charged them straightly to tell no man.

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Modern Christianity often forgets the smallest details of compassion; Christ ordered them to feed the resurrected girl.

Mark 5:43 is one of the tenderest verses in the Gospels. After raising a twelve-year-old girl from the dead in front of her parents, the first instruction Christ gave was practical and compassionate: that something should be given her to eat. The Lord of resurrection thought of breakfast. He had just demonstrated cosmic authority over death; He immediately attended to a child's hunger.

Modern Christianity often misses the smallest details of compassion in its zeal for the big miracles. Christ models the integration. The Lord who raised the dead also remembered the breakfast. Be like Him. Pray for the cosmic things; serve the small ones; the same Spirit animates both.
